If you ask me, Pantone nailed it with this year's color selections. 

The juxtaposition of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating coming together as the color(s) of the year serve many significant purposes. Ultimate Gray is that of solid ground on which to stand and build a strong and dependable foundation. It brings forth “feelings of composure, steadiness, and resilience.”

Illuminating is the light at the end of the tunnel; it is cheery and full of hope, there to guide the way.

 

This collaboration shows how “two independent colors [can] highlight how different elements come together to support one another.”

I love this message and everything these colors represent. They both express attributes that are meaningful and necessary, yet different from one another. They come together to compliment and complete the picture. Similarly, I believe that we all have our own strengths and weaknesses; we are not one created identical to the next.

I love when we are able to come together as a community to use our differences for good. We are meant to use our different skills and outlooks to expand each other’s perspective to come together for a grander vision. We are designed to help one another, as each of us is gifted in a different way.

As humans, we need community with others to survive. Now, as we are distanced, separated, and hurt--each in different ways from this pandemic—we need to maintain strength and fortitude whilst remaining cheerfully optimistic, pressing forward and moving ahead to new places full of hope.

 

 

 

It is a beautiful message to start off this new year with the right mindset. 

 

If you're wondering how to align your makeup with this year's selected colors, playing with eyes and highlight is the way to go. Here are a few of my favorite conservative choices to help you stay on trend while maintaining soft finish:

 

Dazzle is a beautifully soft, yet bright, highlight shadow with subtle hints of yellow-gold tones glimmering through it's frosted finish. Looking for something more bold? Booty is the perfect bronzed gold for an added touch on the lid. This will keep it on the warm side of the color spectrum without feeling banana yellow and totally out of your comfort zone. 

 

Pair this with a touch of Mercury Ultimate Liner to smudge out your typical black liner for a delicate silvery grey accent.

 

Looking to tie it all together? Goldie Luxe is the perfect accent gloss for ANY lipstick. It's delicate golden fleck will add that little bit of cheer back into your smile.
